The Barrington Area Drug Prevention Coalition (BADPC) has released a Community Assessment Report. This report is important to everyone in our community, as everyone is impacted by substance abuse in some way. Whether its poor school performance, family problems, increased healthcare and law-enforcement costs, or senseless tragedies, substance abuse impacts everyone.
This is the first assessment report from teh Barrington Area Drug Prevention Coalition. The report was compiled throughout the 2008-2009 school year, with the assistance of many members of BADPC, local law enforcement, and members of School District 220, including students.
Some major components included within this report are:
- Barrington High School student survey conducted in February, 2008. This is an opportunity to view results from the Illinois Youth Survey given to all BHS students. A summary of underage drinking and substance abuse is given.
- Environmental Scan of our Communities, A look at retail establishments where alcohol can be purchased and where alcohol is advertised locally.
- Summary of Parent Focus Groups on Underage Drinking. The BADPC conducted parent focus groups in March, 2009, facilitated by staff from the Lake County Health Department. Questions focused on underage drinking.
- Information on Local Ordinances. The Barrington Area encompasses many different communities, each with varying ordinances when it comes to underage drinking and substance abuse.
